Measures May Be Taken to Reduce Southfield Road Speeding

Southfield Road in Chiswick may be in line for measures to reduce speeding after it was included in a list of projects which may receive funding.
Ealing Council has made a submission to Transport for London (TfL) for transport related schemes and the road appears for the first time.
The Liberal Democrat councillors who represent the ward in which the road is located are claiming credit for the move due to their consistent lobbying over the issue .
Southfield Road is a busy throughfare between Acton and Chiswick which has a 20 mile per hour limit. Over the last five years, community-led speed measuring sessions over the past 5 years have shown that both cars and buses regularly exceed the limit.
Many pedestrians cross the road including families visiting Southfield Recreation Ground and children attending school nearby.
Proposals put forward by Liberal Democrat councillors and residents to increase road safety have included implementing a crossing to strengthen safety issues and electronic speed displays which can be effective in making drivers more aware of their speed. Up until now no action has been taken but the road appears as a line item in the submission made by the council for funding for 2025/6. This does not guarantee that funding will be received or that it would be used on Southfield Road.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm, Leader of the Opposition and Southfield Councillor said, “Liberal Democrats say for many years the Southfield Councillors have worked with the local community to monitor and address speeding issues in Southfield Road and it has taken over five years for Ealing Labour to take any notice of this issue. We will be pressing them to clarify funding allocation and delivery for our local communities.”
