Pret a Manger is making what its fans believe is a long overdue move into Chiswick. The international sandwich shop chain has taken a lease on the former Santander Bank premises at 336-338 Chiswick High Road and is intending to open for business in the autumn.

The unit was advertised for rent at £175,000 per annum exclusive for a 2,430 sq ft site. A change of use is necessary because of the existing classification of the property.

Drawings submitted with the application show that the intention is to have some seating outside at the front of the premises.

The first Pret was opened in 1983 and the chain has since expanded to over 460 stores in the UK more than half of which are in London. The opening in Chiswick represents a reversal of outlet closures since the pandemic.

Guy Meakin, Interim Managing Director UK & Ireland, Pret A Manger said, “We know how much London loves a Pret, which is why, as part of our plan to bring the joy of our freshly made food and organic coffee to even more people, we’re expanding with a new shop on Chiswick High Road. The new shop will open in the Autumn, and as part of our ongoing work to help alleviate homelessness and poverty, surplus freshly made food will be donated to local charities in Hackney via The Pret Foundation.”

Santander Bank pulled out of Chiswick just over a year ago saying that a switch to telephone and online banking had meant that fewer people.

The next door property at 340 Chiswick High Road, which was formerly a mobile and vape shop, is being taken over by Oree Boulangerie a upmarket French bakery. The unit was advertised with a rent of £85,000 per annum.
