A street cleaner has been stabbed and seriously injured in Rylett Road in Shepherd's Bush after disturbing a burglar on Wednesday August 29.

Police have confirmed the man, aged around 40, suffered life threatening injuries during the incident which happened around 1.50pm.

The cleaner, an employee of service company Serco, became suspicious of activity in a local property and confronted a man who attacked him by stabbing him in the chest.

An air ambulance landed in nearby Wendell Park and took the victim to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, where he is reported to have undergone emergency surgery.

Police closed off local roads during the afternoon and early evening and asked people to avoid the area if possible.

On Twitter, Hammersmith and Fulham Police described the attack as an "isolated incident" and assured the public they were taking necessary steps.

They are asking anyone who witnessed the attack or who can offer information to call 101 and quote CAD 4740 or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
