At the time of writing well over 500 people have signed up to the Liberal Democrat petition to get Piccadilly line tubes to stop at Turnham Green tube station in the day.
One resident told me a few days ago that she was glad we have raised this important local issue. She went on to say it is something that we need to get us to and from central London, where many local people work.
I am very proud that for over twenty years, the Liberal Democrats have campaigned with local residents on this issue. People said it would never happen but over the last few years two positive changes occurred which gave us much hope as we waited for the upgrade to the signalling to happen.
Like a bolt from the blue, the grubby, behind closed doors deal done between Labour’s Mayor of London and the Conservative Government has meant the much-needed Piccadilly Line tube signalling upgrade has been delayed indefinitely.
But remember thought that we were told that Charing Cross’ Accident & Emergency ward would be closed, but after a large seven year campaign it was saved recently!
Both the Conservatives and the Labour party should apologise for treating residents who were looking forward to the tube upgrades and tubes stopping at Turnham Green all through the day.
Liberal Democrats want to see more travel by rail and the tube network as it is one of the most environmentally friendly methods of travel around London.
With so many people wanting the Piccadilly line to be upgraded I am glad that Siobhan Benita, the Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of London, has given a commitment that if she is elected, I will fight this corner for Londoners and do everything in her power to ensure Piccadilly line signalling upgrades happen to allow tubes to stop at Turnham Green tube station in the day.
The three local Southfield Liberal Democrat Councillors continue to give our all to get the Mayor of London to upgrade the Piccadilly line signalling.
