Liberal Democrat mayoral candidate has pledged to work for daytime service
Piccadilly line train speeds through Turnham Green
Another petition about the issue of Piccadilly line services at Turnham Green underground station has been started, this time by the Liberal Democrats.
Their candidate for Mayor, Siobhan Benita, has pledged to do all she can to have an all-day service introduced and the party says they have campaigned on this issue for the last couple of decades.
At the time of writing 147 people have signed the petition.
A consultation held by TfL in 2013 showed overwhelming support for the introduction of an increased service with 14,000 people responding. At the time this was the largest response to any consultation that wasn’t covering the whole of London.
As a result TfL agree to make a Turnham Green stop a priority when the Piccadilly line signalling upgrade was completed but this project has not been funded as part of the agreement between the Mayor and central government and appears to have been delayed indefinitely.
The Liberal Democrats say that this means a Labour Mayor and a Conservative government have made a political choice to sacrifice the needs of Chiswick’s residents.
Councillor Andrew Steed said, Only the Liberal Democrats have been on the side of residents in Chiswick on this important local issue for over twenty years – it is not the time to give up now. The Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of London, Siobhan Benita, has given a commitment that if elected she will do everything in her power to ensure that Piccadilly line tubes will stop at Turnham Green tube station in the day."
In February, Nicholas Rogers, who is the Conservative party’s London Assembly candidate for the local constituency launched a campaign with London Mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey on the issue and also started a petition.
