Borough's third highest source of PCNs for this type of offence The controversial yellow box junction on Chiswick High Road by the junction with Ennismore Avenue saw £144,390 worth of fines issued to motorists last year, the third highest in the borough. Over 1,000 fines were levied for vehicles being stationary in the junction box. The Hounslow Council handed out 7,051 charges in total in the 2018/19 financial year for yellow junction box offences, with drivers facing a fine of £65 if they pay within 14 days or £130 beyond that. The number of charges handed out decreased on previous years, with 2017/18 seeing 8,077 charges, and 2016/17 at 13,442. The two locations where the highest amount of fines were issued were both in the Hounslow town area. The charges were issued from CCTV cameras meaning that of the 676 people who challenged the fines only 36 got off. Many motorists have complained that the markings at the junction box are unclear and it is not a location where you would normally expect such a box with a ‘Keep Clear’ box more normal in such circumstances so many of those fined have only noticed the junction box before they have entered it. There were complaints from some residents recently after a number of motorists had their windows smashed by robberies on mopeds near this location. It was queried why CCTV was not used to tackle more serious crimes. The top ten most common yellow box junctions to be charged at in Hounslow:
