Acton Town Station Evacuated Due To Fire

Acton Town underground station needed to be evacuated this Tuesday evening (1 February) after a fire broke out in adjacent buildings.
Pictures posted on social media showed flames rising above nearby buildings and smoke billowing out.
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters attended the incident at the single storey building .
There were a number of gas cylinders inside the garage, which firefighters cooled to an ambient temperature as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.
Three men left the property before the Brigade arrived and around 35 people were evacuated from the area as a precaution. Local residents were advised to keep their windows closed due to the smoke.

The Brigade's Control Office took 15 calls about the fire starting at 5.10pm with crews from Acton, Chiswick, Ealing, Park Royal and other neighbouring fire stations attending. The fire was under control by 9.26pm with firefighters remaining at the scene to damp down the area.

The District Line was suspended between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway and Piccadilly line services were also affected. Gunnersbury Lane was shut while emergency services dealt with the incident.
The cause of the fire will be investigated.
