Southfield ward police have warned residents to be vigilant following a report that a man attempted to pass himself off as a policeman on Blandford Road.

He was described as a male in plain clothes wearing a bomber style jacket, aged late twenties/early thirties.

Police said that he tried to pass off a large laminated piece of card as a warrant card or ID and wanted some details of the resident's bank and credit cards.

A local police officer said, "Fortunately the resident was vigilant and asked more questions which led to the suspect leave in fear of having real police attend to ask questions."

Police said that under no circumstances should you give out your banking details to anyone who comes to your door claiming to be police or a courier or anyone else.

Police will never ask for your bank details

If you are not sure of the person whom is attending your door, please call police to
1. verify they are real police
2. for real police to attend to ask more questions to the person at your door.

More than likely fraudsters will make off as soon as they know you are on to them.
