Woman in her nineties had bag stolen outside her home

Police have issued an image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the theft of a handbag from a woman in her nineties.

The woman had just returned to her home at Strand on the Green shortly before 4.30pm on 19 February and had put her bag on the ground outside her front door as she prepared to go inside.

The suspect, described as "wearing dark and dirty clothing" approached and quickly grabbed her handbag before running off.

The victim was left in a shocked state after the incident. Local people came to her assistance and raised the alarm.

An ambulance was called and the woman was treated by paramedics but did not go to hospital.

A police spokesman said the suspect had carried out an opportunistic theft on the elderly woman as she was going into her home. He said it appeared to be an isolated incident.
