Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that a new timetable will be in place for route 440 from this Saturday (29 June).

The bus service, which runs between Turnham Green in Chiswick and Wembley Stadium, will see its Sunday daytime frequency will be increased to a bus every 15 minutes and the evening frequency will also be increased to every 20 minutes on all days of the week. There will be no change to the frequency at any other time.

The times of first buses will also change on all days of the week and will now depart at 5am from Turnham Green to Wembley Stadium instead of at 5.55am on Monday to Saturdays and 6.55am on Sundays. First buses from Wembley Stadium to Turnham Green will now depart at 5am instead of at 5.55am on Monday to Saturdays and 7.20am on Sundays.

The service is operated by London United (RATP) and will now be based at Stamford Brook Garage rather than Park Royal.

Further improvements in bus services in Chiswick could be in the offing if lobbying by Richmond Council is successful. A borough transport committee meeting earlier this month resolved to write to TfL about the lack of improvement in local routes. Among the priorities the councillors said that TfL should adopt was the switch of some routes to a double decker service including the 110.

A report presented to the committee stated, “The improvement of bus services would additionally help address transport inequality across the borough and support those dependent on bus services and lower-income households.”

A TfL spokesperson said, “We are committed to providing a safe and reliable bus service that meets the complex, evolving needs of Londoners. We regularly review our services according to customer demand and will continue to work closely with Richmond Council.”
