I started the week with a task-force meeting on Hammersmith Bridge. I was very pleased to meet with the Minister and other interested west London MP’s to discuss how we move forward on the issue. I know it is important to local people that the Bridge can be brought back to full use and I was reassured that the Transport Minister heard the concerns we put forward. I will continue to keep constituents updated on progress as and when we hear updates.

In the House there was a statement from the Lord Chancellor announcing a review on sentencing, led by David Gauke, with the aim of ending the crisis in prisons. The review will look at how we sentence offenders, making sure we have necessary capacity to punish serious offenders whilst also looking at community sentencing with a focus on rehabilitation for more minor offences to try to reduce reoffending. As Chair of the Justice Select Committee I asked the Lord Chancellor to keep in mind the additional work community sentencing brings to the probation service and to look next at how we support this overstretched part of our justice system. I look forward to the review reporting in the Spring where my Committee will take a keen interest.

Locally I am still working on reviving and reconvening the Gunnersbury Station Action Team. My office is currently in the middle of arranging an initial meeting to get the working group up and running again and we are making good progress.

TfL continues to consider the responses to their consultation on Hogarth Roundabout. Given the number of objections and the concerns about the closure of Church Street, I anticipate TfL will take some time to think through the carefully thought out responses. I continue to try and meet with key people within TfL to make sure residents voices are heard.

We also now have the good news that plans for the redevelopment of Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre are being considered. Hounslow Council are looking to release a consultation before the end of the year on this – one to look out for so that local people can let the Council know how important a local leisure centre is to their community.

Best wishes,

Andy

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.
