Getting to Know a New Set of Constituents |

Andy Slaughter MP for Chiswick and Hammersmith reports back
September 7, 2024 It is only two months since the General Election, though it feels as though a lot has happened in that time. For me as the new MP for Chiswick a priority has been getting to know Chiswick on a more granular level, meet residents and get to grips with local issues In July I spent the day at Chiswick Pier Trust’s Party on the Pier. I also celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Routemaster at Chiswick Business Park, formerly the London Transport Works. An incredible assembly of London’s most-loved buses, opened by new Transport Minister Lord Hendy, who drove there in his own Routemaster. In August, I visited Chiswick Flower Market and was shown around by Karen and other local residents who founded the market four years ago. A remarkable achievement and the market has gone from strength to strength, now joined by the antiques, cheese and street food markets on other Sundays in the month. It really is a testament to what people can achieve for their local area.
Of course, it hasn’t all been parties and events. I have met several times with TfL and Hounslow Council to discuss the redesign of Hogarth roundabout, most recently on Friday. I’m grateful to those constituents who have written to me with detailed briefings on the issue and I now feel confident I am well appraised, particularly about the proposed closure of Church Street at the junction with the roundabout which I think is misconceived. I will continue to meet with relevant stakeholders on this important issue and will always advocate for the best outcome for the people of Chiswick. Likewise, I’ve been listening to local people over concerns about Gunnersbury Station and the redevelopment of Chiswick Tower. I am very grateful to the West Chiswick and Gunnersbury Society for briefing me on the opportunities to improve access to the station as part of the development. I must give a special mention to Cllr Amy Croft, local councillor for Chiswick Riverside. Her insight and expertise in the local area have really been invaluable to me in quickly learning the lay of the land. I look forward to working with her and other councillors and community representatives more in the future and continuing to get to know the real Chiswick. Best wishes, Andy andy@andyslaughter.com
