W4 Youth and Rocks Lane Sports Trust have announced a new partnership which could enable significant investment in local sports facilities.

The locally based charity for young people and the company which runs the sports facilities on Chiswick Back Common have been invited to join the Ealing Consortium for the Football Foundation PlayZones project in which a number of parks in Ealing Borough will receive Football Foundation funding to renovate or build a PlayZone.

This is an initiative which funds community-led spaces new or refurbished outdoor mini pitches designed for football and other sports and activities.

The existing basketball court as Southfield Recreation Ground has been identified as a potential site for an upgrade.

The two local organisations are also partnering to progress to the next stage of building the new W4 Youth & Community Centre in the park.

Sally Chacatté, W4 Youth Founder and Chair, said, “Rocks Lane has always been very close to our hearts as it’s where our son found much solace in his teenage years after the incident that happened to him back in 2009. Partnering with Rocks Lane Sports Trust is an exciting next step in W4 Youth’s journey on the development of the W4 Youth & Community Centre and other plans for Southfield Recreation Ground. Our purpose and values are totally aligned and we look forward to all that it brings in the future.”

Chris Warren, MD of Rocks Lane said: “I’m excited to expand our work together and to create a partnership between The Rocks Lane Sports Trust and W4 Youth to create The W4 Youth & Community Centre and associated community facilities for local people and especially the younger members of our community. I have very fond memories of regularly playing sport at my local youth club in Yorkshire.”

The new partnership alongside Brentford FC Community Sports Trust will be hosting a Community Fun Event from 12 noon on Saturday 30 September to answer any questions on the plans for Southfield Recreation Ground including the new W4 Youth & Community Centre, the W4 Youth & Rocks Lane Sport Trust partnership and future plans for the park.
