Dame Sian Phillips to Unveil New W4th Plinth Artwork |
Judges have already chosen new piece from nearly 500 submissions
April 14, 2023 The new artwork at the ‘W4th Plinth’ by the Turnham Green Terrace piazza is to be unveiled later this month. At 1pm on Sunday 23 April Dame Siân Phillips will officially reveal the piece chosen by a panel of judges from nearly 500 submissions. The 89-year-old actor, is perhaps best known for her BAFTA winning performance as Livia in the classic BBC TV series I Claudius, but she has had a long and distinguished career on the stage and in TV and film which takes in appearances in roles as diverse as Hedda Gabler and George Smiley’s wife in the adaptations of John Le Carre’s books as well as more recent appearances in Lewis and Blankety Blank. She will be appearing in conversation with theatre director Richard Digby Day at The Tabard Theatre later the same afternoon. At the time of writing there was still a few tickets left for this production which comes just a few weeks ahead of her 90th birthday. Abundance London will be announcing the artwork to be selected in the near future to replace the NASA photograph which has occupied the spot for over a year. The original entries were whittled down by a jury to just 15 of which 3 did not meet the technical requirements. The final dozen were then voted on by the public over the past month, with thousands of votes cast. The nominated works are: Arthopod - Karen Grosman
The artist will be present at the unveiling and signed limited editions of the new artwork will be available for purchase. There will be some refreshments to celebrate, offered by Harriet Benton Events. Karen Liebreich of Abundance London said, “We are very excited about our winner.
