Hundreds of submissions received for site near Turnham Green Terrace
December 29, 2022 Hundreds of applications have been received from artists hoping for their work to occupy the ‘W4th Plinth’ on Turnham Green Terrace. Submissions could be made up until the end of 2022 and there has been no shortage of people with ideas. Organised by Abundance London, the intention is to have a new artwork at the spot on the railway embankment close to the piazza area every six months. Since February, the ‘plinth’ has been taken up with a photograph of space taken from the Suomi NPP satellite. The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument has been used to create synthesized view of the planet showing North Africa and southwestern Europe. The successful artwork will be turned into a 4m by 4m banner and will be auctioned off after its period of display with Abundance London suggesting that it be given 50% of the proceeds for its community work.
