At the end of what was a dismal day for the Liberal Democrats there was one bright spot due to their performance in Southfield ward which covers the northern part of Chiswick.

Two sitting Councillors Gary Malcolm and Andrew Steed were re-elected to be joined by Gary Busuttil who is replacing the retiring Harvey Rose.

The party held onto one of the other two seats they held in the borough which would probably have been a relief after seeing how their party colleagues had fared earlier in the day in other boroughs.

The Conservatives had targetted the seat in their bid to regain control of Ealing Council but in the event they suffered heavy losses across the borough with Labour substantially increasing their majority on the Council.
