There have been a least two major cases of flytipping in the area around Dukes Meadows this week.

In the first reported incident, which took place on Monday (26 July) a large white van was seen at around 4.24pm unloading a significant amount of construction debris on a private road near Corney Reach.

The pile is nearly 80ft long and is blocked access for other vehicles and residents were concerned about the ability of emergency services to render assistance to their homes. The deposited material suggest it was originally from work being done on residential premises possibly the demolition of an extension.

Local resident Irma Hamiliton-Hunt said, “We have CCTV of the van but the driver had plastic bags over the numberplates it’s really upsetting the council are saying it’s a private road even though it’s used by the public as a walkway to get to the river by Dukes Meadows.”

A few days later a similarly large pile on construction waste was dumped on Riverside Drive.

The Corney Reach flytip has been reported to police who have provided a crime number. Local residents have taken pictures of items in the tip which they believe may be personally identifiable in the hope that the householder may be unaware of how their waste was desposed of and report the contractor to the authorities.
