Local Councillors and the Chiswick Clean Up team need your help
Local campaigners and Councillors are urging resident to step forward this weekend (26-27 September) in support of the National Keep Britain Tidy Campaign. The campaign has been running since the start of the month with coverage on several social media platforms across the borough. As we come to end of the campaign, Turnham Green ward representative Cllr Ron Mushiso hopes that by teaming up with the Chiswick Clean Up volunteers at their usual slot of the last Sunday of month, the Keep Britain Tidy campaign can help change perceptions about caring for our environment and make a lasting impact locally. Cllr Mushiso says, ‘This weekend will be slightly different from our previous litter picks. We are encouraging resident to look after their own streets, alleyways and local communal spaces.’ As part of the National #GBseptemberClean campaign, Cllr Ron Mushiso wants local residents in the three wards of Chiswick in Hounslow borough to consider their own immediate neighbourhood as part of the campaign. The leader of Conservative Councillors in Chiswick, Cllr Gerald McGregor has posted a video urging resident to their bit for community by clearing up on their roads. In the video he also calls for more volunteers to come out and support the monthly Chiswick Clean Up event this Sunday 27 September from 2pm -3pm.
Cllr Mushiso added, ‘Strict social distances measure will apply as per the Government guidance, but it should detract any of our resident from wanting to give up an hour of their time on this Sunday to help support this environmental cause.’ ~ The Chiswick Clean Up will be one event, but the purpose of weekend is to show support for the Keep Britain Tidy Great British September Clean by picking litter in your own street, park or nearest open space. Last year over 500 bags of litter being collected across the entire London Borough of Hounslow - 25 per cent of which was suitable for recycling. How can you get involved? 1. Whether it's an alleyway, or a neglected part of your local park near your home or work, then get in touch with Cllr Mushiso at ron.mushiso@hounslow.gov.uk or by phone on 07976 702887 or email directly to Cleaner.Greener@hounslow.gov.uk to where you intend take action and ask for Litter Pickers, Gloves and Bin Bags to be delivered to you directly by the Hounslow Highways team. Encourage your friends, colleagues, family and neighbours involved too keeping to the rule of six permutations. 2. If you do organise your own street clean up event then please email Cleaner.Greener@hounslow.gov.uk to arrange to collect the rubbish and after your clean-up. This is also important to ensure your bags are not mistaken for flytipped waste. 3. Once you have organised a clean-up, why not promote it on the ChiswickW4.com forum, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Don't forget to use tags on Twitter (@LBofHounslow), Facebook (hounslowcouncil), Instagram (hounslowcouncil) and include the #GBSeptemberClean and #CleanerGreenerHounslow too, so that you can link with the main campaign online. 4. If you wish to join the Chiswick Clean Up action day on Sunday 27 September at 2pm get in touch with Cllr Mushiso using the contact details above to register. The team will meet in front of Christ Church on Turnham Green W4 5DT and will be finished by 3pm. Keep Britain Tidy had planned the Great British Spring Clean earlier this year with 680,000 volunteers pledged to take part but due to the pandemic the initiative had to be cancelled. They have now organised the Great British September Clean and are urging people to organise a private clean-up with up to five other family and friends or if you pledge to do your own individual clean-up, you can give as little as 15 minutes to the campaign.
