A number of flash floods have occurred in Chiswick this Thursday morning (3 November) following heavy overnight rain.

The Met Office estimates that up to one inch of rain fell in the London and, once again, drainage systems in the W4 area struggled to cope with the excess water.

There are large areas of standing water on Chiswick High Road, Bollo Lane and Acton Lane which, in some cases, could not be passed by vehicles.

The rain also affected the tube with the District Line suspended between Turnham Green and Richmond with passengers advised to use bus services as an alternative.

Surprisingly, one area that was not affected by flooding was the Fishers Lane underpass which usually becomes a lake when there is heavy rainfall. It is understood that recent work undertaken at the site improved the existing drainage system.

Fine weather is predicted for Thursday afternoon which should reduce flooding in the area but more rain is forecast overnight.
