Fairyland in Barley Mow Passage was previously rated as inadequate
March 6, 2023 A Chiswick nursery that was rated as inadequate by Ofsted after an inspection last year has bounced back after being reassessed as ‘Good’. This is the second highest rating that can be achieved with Outstanding being the highest. At the most recent inspection this January there were none of the reservations that arose on the previous visit to Fairyland at Barley Mow Passage indicating that management had taken on board suggestions for improvement. The inspectors concluded that the children ‘are happy, safe and secure in this setting’ and settle easily when dropped off having formed secure attachments with key staff who know them well. The report highlights how young toddlers enjoy exploring range of sensory and how interactions between staff and children are warm and positive. The children benefit from being able to play outside and go on bug and warm hunts and, unlike previously, a qualified first aider always accompanies the children when they go on trips outside. The leaders and staff are described as “a diligent team and are determined to provide the best quality of care and education for children. They have worked tirelessly to make all necessary improvements in order to ensure that children are always well supervised and safe in this setting.” The manager and staff were said to have a good understanding of child protection matters and were able to identify when a child may be at risk of harm and understand how to report concerns and allegations. All staff now hold paediatric first-aid certificates. The earlier inspection had found that there was a lack of consistent and effective supervision particularly at mealtimes which gave rise to a risk of choking and the staff-to-child ratio was too low. Fairyland Nursery opens from 7.30am to 6.30pm, each weekday, throughout the year. The provider employs 11 members of staff to work with the children.
