Declan Donnelly Confirms Wife's Pregnancy

Some good news from the Chiswick-based star after a dreadful week

Declan Donnelly has revealed that his wife, Ali Astall, is expecting their first child.

The Chiswick-based presenter confirmed the pregnancy with an Instagram post which said, “Just wanted to say thank you for all the lovely messages. The news has sneaked out a little earlier than we had hoped but Ali and I are delighted to be expecting our first child. Thanks for all the love, we really appreciate it.”

The post included a picture of him and his wife on their wedding day.

It will be a welcome boost after a terrible week in which he saw his best friend Ant McPartlin charged with a drink driving offence and withdraw from broadcasting commitments for the foreseeable future to spend time in rehab.

Dec and Ali were married in 2015 and they are believed to have spoken directly to Ant, who was best man at their wedding, about the news before going public. According to the Sun newspaper the announcement was delayed until Ms Astall’s pregnancy had run for 3 months.

She had worked as his agent for several years before they started going out together and dated for over two years before Dec proposed in 2014 while in Australia filming 'I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here'. The wedding service was conducted at St Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Elswick, Newcastle by Dec’s brother Father Dermott Donnelly.
