There was severe traffic congestion on the A316 this Tuesday morning due to the closure of the Hogarth Flyover.

At around 7.30am the driver of a white lorry appears to have ignored width restrictions at the access to the bridge, knocked over the bollards designed to enforce them and carried on over the flyover until his vehicle became wedged between the barriers at the side. The driver was reportedly unhurt after the incident.

This resulted in long delays from Hogarth Roundabout down Burlington Lane as far as Chiswick Bridge and Chalkers Corner.

There have been several major traffic jams caused by lorry drivers ignoring road signage in recent weeks with vehicles twice crashing into a rail bridge at Kew on the Mortlake Road.

The flyover reopened after a few hours but later in the day an oil spillage on the A4 caused further disruption in the area.
