Both the A4 and the A40 will see the creation of special 'Games Lanes' during next year's Olympics to enable athletes and officials easier access to and from venues.

Thousands of competitors from all around the world will descend on London and Transport for London (TfL) are developing an Olympic Road Network (ORN) to ensure that they all get to their events on time.

As a result, TfL are demanding a number of temporary changes to traffic conditions including:

  • The creation of special ‘Games Lanes’ on parts of the A40 (Westway/ A40 corridor intersection with Old Oak Common, generally from 6am to 11pm).
  • A similar lane on parts of the A4 (proposed from 6am – 7pm west of Earls Court: 6am till midnight east of Earls Court).
  • Banned right turn into Old Oak Road off the A40 , except local buses.
  • Banned right turn into Netheravon Road South off the A4.
  • Banned left turn into Gliddon Road off the A4.
  • Official Games vehicles will need to use the West Cross Route on road event days.

The changes will come into effect two weeks before the Games which commence on July 27th, 2012 and will finish at the conclusion of the Paralympics on September 9th.

LBH&F Cllr Nick Botterill said: “The Olympic Route Network will undoubtedly cause disruption to motorists who already spend too long stuck behind the wheel, so we are pushing TfL to do all they can to minimise the disruption this will cause.”

Transport for London will be be holding a consultation on these temporary measures and holding a number of drop-in sessions where residents and motorists will be able to obtain further information including:

  • Changes to the way roads operate
  • Changes to restricted turns
  • Suspension of parking or loading bays

Consultation will take place in several phases.
