Brook Green and Ravenscourt Park both set to benefit

Hammersmith and Fulham Council has announced it is planning to spend £2 million improving 11 of the borough's most popular parks - including Hammersmith's Brook Green, Ravenscourt and Marcus Garvey Parks.

The council says it intends to spend £74,000 redeveloping the play area at Brook Green, while launching a consultation asking users of Ravenscourt Park to give their views on how it should be improved.

Elsewhere in the borough meanwhile, Wormholt Park in the north of Shepherd's Bush is set to receive a £1 million boost this year, as part of a total of £2 million promised by H & F Council to improve 11 of the borough’s most popular green spaces.

The council says, subject to funding confirmation, the park will be fully refurbished and residents will be consulted about the proposed refurbishment later in the year.

Other Shepherd's Bush parks set for improvements as part of the scheme are Wormwood Scrubs, Wendell and Hammersmith Parks.

In Fulham, £300,000 will be spent sprucing up Eel Brook Common in Fulham, enhancing paths and adding new bins and benches. Normand Park and Lillie Road Recreation Ground in the north of Fulham are also earmarked for improvements.

This money is in addition to the £3.3 million that is about to be spent improving Shepherd's Bush Green, which will include two new state-of the-art playgrounds, one catering for young children and one for older children and teenagers. Playgrounds will include a range of swings and slides, a sandpit with mechanical diggers, a six yard-high space net, climbing walls, roundabouts and other equipment. Work is set to be completed in time for the London 2012 Olympics.
