Oxbridge success and high pass rates for sixth formers

Across the London Borough of Hounslow 97.8 per cent of the 1263 students received a pass grade in their A-levels, and a record 73.0 per cent received A-C grades, compared to 68.9 per cent in 2007.

At the higher end of the grades, the proportion of students achieving A-B grades has increased from 43.6 per cent last year to 45.4 per cent.

Although Chiswick Community School's results were down on previous years they once again achieved significant success in getting pupils into Oxbridge. Two have gained places at Oxford and two at Cambridge.

Brentford School for Girls is for the first time sending a pupil to an Oxbridge university. Sandra Duchenne, 18, gained a place in Cambridge to study Land Economy after gaining three As in English Literature, History and Economics.

Both Gumley House and Gunnersbury School achieved a 100% pass rate which only one other school in the borough managed to do. Gunnersbury achieved the best overall results by a significant margin with 94% of results graded at A-C.

Congratulating the students on their success, Cllr Paul Lynch, lead member for education at the council, said, “As well as a pass rate above the national average, it is wonderful to see that our students have had a record set of results at the higher A-B grades. These are the key grades which get young people in to best universities and show that our schools are doing a wonderful job of preparing them for a successful life. "
