Ann Keen hosts reception at House of Commons
Ann Keen MP, the Chancellor’s Parliamentary Private Secretary hosted a special reception at the House of Commons and was joined by other celebrities such as Davina McCall (pictured right with Ann Keen), Lenny Henry, Dawn French, Kirsty Young, June Sarpong, Richard Curtis and Emma Freud all backing the campaign. Claudia Schiffer, who gave birth to her second child this month, took time out on the 11th November to urge MPs, MEPs and peers to throw their weight behind next year’s MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY campaign. Ann Keen said: "2005 is a going be a crucial year and I am proud that in my own constituency these issues are being taken up so prominently. I attended a special meeting in Chiswick at the beginning of the month with over 200 constituents. Let’s all come together now and keep the pressure on." The meeting was the first in a series in which the campaign will call on the UK and other western governments to commit in 2005 to trade justice, debt cancellation and more and better aid. With the UK hosting the G7 finance minister’s meeting in London in February and the G8 world leaders meeting in Gleneagles in July as well as holding the presidency of the European Union (EU) - 2005 provides a unique set of opportunities for the UK Government to play a central role in eradicating poverty on a global scale.
