Brentford 5- 2 Wycombe
Brentford beat Wycombe 5-2 at Griffin Park last Saturday in a pulsating game in League One with Gary Alexander scoring a 'perfect' hat trick.
Stuart Beavon could have put Wycombe ahead early on but was thwarted by Richard Lee who made some good saves throughout the game.
Alexander scored his first in the 10th minute when a nonchalant sideways ball by the impressive Jonathan Douglas gave Jake Bidwell the space to cross for the Bees striker to head home.
Shortly afterwards Brentford's lead was doubled when a good run from Logan led to a penalty box melee with Sam Saunders eventually slotting home from twelve yards.
It was 3-0 on the half hour mark when Alexander and Bidwell again combined - Gaz smashing a left footed shot home from close range.
Wycombe pulled a controversial goal back just after half time. A silly free kick conceded by Saunders was taken by Grant Basey and Winfield headed home with the linesman flagging for offside. The official then decided to drop his flag and referee Mark Heywood gave the goal.
Fortunately Wycombe didn't build on their foothold in the game and eventually Brentford got a fourth goal - Marcus Bean refusing to give up on a seemingly lost cause and squaring the ball for Diagouraga to slot home.
Former Brentford frontman Ben Strevens then made it 4-2 from close range before Alexander restored Brentford's three goal league with a superb right footed angled volley. Cue mild mayhem in the stands.
Visiting keeper Nikki Bull - who got a decent reception from the Ealing Road - also saw his crossbar rattled by Douglas and substitute Myles Weston.
To be fair to Wycombe they looked fairly lively in attack - with former Crewe and Aldershot attacker Joel Grant showing some neat footwork. They were however fairly dreadful at the back (Basey and Danny Foster playing at fullbacks to complete four Brentford Rejects among their ranks).
Either way it was a much needed home win with some crisp attacking football and obviously a morale boosting goal tally.
Bees - Lee, Logan, Dean, Legge, Bidwell, Saunders (Weston 80), Douglas, Bean, Dave, Alexander, Donaldson
Unused Bees - Moore, Eger, Forrester, McGinn
