The Devonshire Road cafe is top 'Cheap Eats' venue
Urban Pantry, the cafe on Devonshire Road, has been given a Best Cheat Eats award by the Observer Food Monthly (OFM). The Cheap Eats category celebrates eateries offering meals under £15. Urban Pantry was a runner up in the London category with two other restaurants Ma Plucker, in Soho which specialises in chicken dishes, and Well Kneaded Pizza, a chain across London. The OFM described Urban Pantry as an "Antipodean-inspired cafe offering modern breakfast and brunch favourites- corn fritters, shakshuka, quinoa and kale pancakes and of course, smashed avocado on sourdough". Owner Kate Frobisher said she could not believe it, since the cafe had only been open ten months. She added, "I am so grateful to members of the Chiswick community for taking time out of their days to go online and vote for us, and also to my team who have made Urban Pantry a lovely place to eat, drink and relax." Kate, who is from Twickenham, trained at Leith's School of Food and Wine, and then set off to live in Sydney, Australia, where she fell in love with the breakfast culture. After finishing her degree at Birmingham University, she returned to work in the hospitality sector in New Zealand, and was again inspired by the fresh food and the coffee culture there. "Everyone on Devonshire Road has been so welcoming and I feel really honoured to be part of such a special road. I am from Twickenham but have been in love with Chiswick for a long time, so I am so happy that I found the perfect place for Urban Pantry in Chiswick. " October 22, 2016 |
