On their first ever visit to Riverside Lands newly promoted Old Parmiterians deserved at least a part of the spoils after showing in what was only their third league game that they were not going to be overawed. They were obviously well prepared for what should have been a stern test and, as a result of a lacklustre performance from their hosts, found themselves outplaying the champions for much of the first half.

During this period Meads’ lack of support for players on the ball and consequent poor distribution gifted the visitors possession on numerous occasions and this, added to Parmiters’ greater desire for the ball meant they easily had the lion’s share. Only unsteadiness in front of goal and astute positional play from keeper Kris Sayers saved Meads, who were only dangerous from breakaways, from going in two or more down.

In what was almost a travesty the hosts snatched the only goal of the match on twenty five minutes when midfielder Dwayne Rhone took the ball on a mazy run down the left and picked out a late run from Henrik Jakobsson who fed the corner of the net from fifteen yards.

The second half saw some improvement in Meads’ performance as the defence, expertly marshalled by Dan Salanson, kept the visitors at long range, while striker Leon Smith, put in by Alex Hugh Jones, proved stronger than his marker in the run in but had his goal mysteriously disallowed. Dwayne Rhone, for his work rate and assist in the goal, shaded Kris Sayers for MoM.

Team: Sayers, Salanson, Hugh Jones, McCombe, Jakobsson, (McGregor), Pointer, Pearce, (Costello), Gerrish, Rhone, L. Smith, D. Smith.
