Old Meads comfortable in derby clash Amateur Football Alliance Middlesex & Essex Senior Cup - Old Meadonians 3 Polytechnic 1
Even operating at sixty percent efficiency Old Meadonians were too strong for local rivals Polytechnic at Riverside Lands on Saturday and eased comfortably into the last eight of the Middlesex and Essex senior cup. However, Meads are still not putting the chances away and taking the opportunity to kill off mediocre opponents, as was evidenced, when, after the eager Pete Lovell gave them the lead on twenty minutes, they failed to sew the game up before half-time. In fact Poly were level ten minutes later when a speculative ball into the box was allowed to drop for a lurking boot to profit from ten yards. A one-sided half time chat galvanised the hosts and following fifteen minutes of one way traffic tireless striker Ed Glover combined with Steve Kearney to lay the ball back for centre back Allastair McCombe to power a shot in off the keeper’s despairing dive from twenty five yards. Meads then let loose seventeen year old Striker Albert Adomah from the bench to make it three at the front and after a couple of unlucky strikes he duly put Poly out of their misery by slotting home a through ball with ten minutes to go.
