Old Meadonians

Old Meadonians completed their pre-season champions league campaign with a satisfying win over league title runners up Old Hamptonians on Saturday despite still being four players short of their preferred line up, leaving them one point short of an appearance in the final.

Even so they were in control of this match from beginning to end as Kevin Quinn hit the post after three minutes and Glover could have added a fourth with minutes to go. In between, a rock solid defence shut out the hosts’ lack lustre attack and a fast breaking mid-field, lead by the rampant Quinn, tore holes in the home defence. On twenty minutes schoolboy Rupert Cope threaded a slide-rule pass through for Steve Bowring to finish emphatically.

Five minutes before half-time Quinn smoothly took the ball thirty yards before releasing Colin Hawkins whose precise cross was met at the far post by Ed Glover for the second. With the stiff breeze behind them Meads were never in danger and Hawkins added number three from another Quinn pass with ten minutes to go.

Team: Sayers, Bowyer, Butler, Williamson, (Thomas H.), Cope, Pointon, Quinn, Glover, Bowring, Hawkins.
