Chiswick athlete Georgia Bell can pack her bags from Paris after winning the British 1500 metres title last weekend.

The 30-year-old secured her place in Team GB for the Olympics with a stunning win at Sportcity in Manchester on 30 June in which she beat Laura Muir, the silver medallist from the Paris Olympics.

She finished in 4:10.69 with another rival for place at the games, Revee Walcott-Nolan, in third place in a race which started more slowly than she expected. With some recent high-profile instances of athletes falling in key Olympic trial races, she was extra cautious as the field bunched.

After the race former St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School pupil, Georgia said, "Crossing the line knowing that I'd done it was a really special moment. I'm really happy."

She added becoming an Olympian was "all that any track athlete wants"

When asked about her expectations for Paris she said that, such is the quality of British women's middle distance running that any one in country's top three should be expected to get into the Olympic final.

Having only returned to competitive runner relative recently, it is still possible that she could see further improvements in her race times working with coaches Trevor Painter and Jennie Meadows. Georgia expressed gratitude to the cyber security firm that employs her for giving her the summer off to concentrate on her running.
