The Roko Health Club in Hartington Road has been acquired by a company owned by Mike Ashley.

The facility is part of an acquisition of four sites, which were put on the market last year, with the others in Gillingham, Nottingham and York.

They have been acquired by Everlast Gyms which already operates at around sixty locations across the UK. The company says it will be installing state of the art equipment with padel courts being considered at some sites.

The purchase price has not been revealed but the Chiswick club was offered through estate agents Savills at a guide price of £1.25 million for a lease of 18 years. The facilities include a 20m swimming pool, spa area with steam and sauna rooms, jacuzzi pool, open plan gym floor, studio rooms and café with lounge area.

Daniel Summerson, managing director of Everlast Gyms, says, "This acquisition marks an exciting milestone for Everlast Gyms as we continue to expand our fitness category and grow our presence across the UK.

“These premium gyms align with our vision to provide top-tier fitness experiences and we see significant potential to enhance and expand these sites in the future. With this addition, we’re not only growing our estate but also reinforcing our commitment to innovation and excellence in the fitness industry.”

Mike Ashley moved into the gym business in 2020 when his Fraser Group bought DW Sports out of administration acquiring the operations of his former rival Dave Whelan.

Frasers Group, which also owns Sports Direct, House of Fraser, Evans Cycles and Flannels, paid an initial cash amount of £37m for some of DW Sports assets.
