Around 70 residents of Strand on the Green gathered earlier this month for a retirement party and presentation for Mrs Daksha Joshi to celebrate her long service working for local branch of the Post Office.

Mrs Joshi, despite poor health, was able to stay for the duration of the event on Saturday 18 May and was delighted to be able to talk to everyone.

She was visibly moved by the generosity of her former customers who wished to show their appreciation of her service to the community.

Mrs Joshi was presented with several pieces of artwork depicting the local area, including an oil painting of Strand the Green by Jane Corsellis, along with an engraved silver Armada dish and a book of hand-written messages.

It was a particularly special occasion for her son Milan, and his wife Nehru. Milan spoke about his deep connection to Strand on the Green, and of course his mother’s dedication to her role and her care for the community.

Milan said afterwards, “My mother was completely overwhelmed. A bit of a double-edged sword - whilst she absolutely loved catching up with everyone, she was also a little sad as she dearly misses everyone in Strand on the Green and her post office. It was a fabulous afternoon and my mother loved the thoughtful gifts. We cannot thank the organisers enough for arranging this.”
