Ceremony will kick of a festive weekend including Christmas Flower Market
This year the lights on the Chiswick Christmas Tree are to be turned on by local celebrity Sophie Ellis-Bextor on Saturday 4 December. Now just about recovered from her 24 hour danceathon that raised over a million pounds for Children In Need, she will be joined by the choirs of Belmont School and the stage school of the Arts Ed who will sing carols from 5pm before the switch on at 5.30pm. Sophie will be joined by the Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Bishnu Gurung. The festivities will continue into the evening with mulled wine and mince pies available, with select local shops staying open late. The celebrations continue on Sunday when the Chiswick Christmas Flower Market opens at 9.30am with some of the largest selections of flowers and plants in London – all entirely from independent businesses at what has become the “Columbia Road of the West.” The market will also have an area for local retailers who will be selling Christmas gifts and will be offering special offers as part of their partnerships with local shops. There will be street entertainment from Chivaree Circus, with stilt-walking ice queens and kings, together with music from Chiswick Rock Choir, Chiswick School and other emerging local musicians. The market aims to bring a party atmosphere with a street BBQ and face-painting which the organisers hope will help kick-off a buoyant Chiswick High Road Christmas. November 26, 2021
