Gareth Armstrong's Fondly Remembered to be staged at The Tabard
May 18, 2024 The Tabard Theatre is to stage another play by Gareth Armstong after the success last year of A Critical Stage Fondly Remembered takes place in the dusty old choir room of a high Anglican church where a group of old friends gather to celebrate a life. Amongst the boxes of battered hymn books and long-forgotten Christmas decorations, Don and Cressida, Zoe and Barry make the acquaintance of Reverend Tom as they discuss arrangements for a memorial service for dearly departed Douglas. The room echoes with laughter, reminiscence, and the occasional heated exchange. But who are they remembering? A creative genius, a former lover, a bitter rival or the man who deceived them all? And is a man’s memorial service the right time to tell the truth? Fondly Remembered features a five-strong ensemble cast of colourful characters. Playing Zoe Seymour is Rosemary Ashe who has appeared in countless West End productions including as Carlotta, the Prima Donna in the original cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of The Opera and Madame Thenardier in Les Miserables. Robin Kermode plays Donald Sowerby. Robin’s credits include The Iron Lady (as John Major) alongside many London and regional theatre credits. William Relton plays Barry Dumont who, in addition to his stage work, is a freelance Opera Director. Barbara Wilshere, whose many credits include TV’s Judge John Deed, Wallander and Peak Practice, is returning to the Tabard have earlier performed in A Critical Stage, in which she starred alongside Jeremy Booth, who also returns to play Rev Thomas Haldane. The limited four week run is from Wednesday 22 May to Saturday 15 June. On the first three days, tickets for preview performances cost £19.50 or £15.50 for concessions. Then from 25 May to 7 June, prices rise to £23.50/£19.50 and then to £25.50/£21.50. Written and directed by Gareth Armstrong, Fondly Remembered takes a witty and poignant look at friendship, loss, and the absurdities of life, and plays a limited four week run at the Tabard.
