Organised by Marek Maryniak in memory of his parents
August 19, 2024 Four Cambridge University music scholars are to perform a special concert of choral music in a Grove Park Church. The event, which takes place at St. Paul’s Church on Grove Park Road (W4 3SD) on Monday 2 September at 7.30pm has been organised by local resident Marek Maryniak. The programme’s theme aims to trace the journey of his parents into exile. Janina and Ludwik Maryniak, were born in two small villages roughly 1000 km apart in pre-war Poland. The music spans over 430 years, ranging from The Mass for Four Voices by the 16th century English composer William Byrd to piano music written in the 21st-century by the Ukrainian composer Leonid Desyatnikov. It includes choral settings of Polish, Scottish and Ukrainian folk songs as well as settings of sacred texts in English, German, Latin, Polish and Old Church Slavonic. All are welcome and entry is free. As both Janina and Ludwik underwent successful coronary artery bypass surgery towards the end of their lives, there will be a retiring collection for the British Heart Foundation. Marek Maryniak c teaches music in two West London schools and works with young musicians in Junior Guildhall, where he directs the Junior Choir, and teaches Composition, Theory and Musical Awareness. He also composes choral works for church, youth and children’s choirs.
