French comedy of manners is the group's summer show
June 16, 2024 St. Michael’s Players has announced details of its summer show ‘The Truth’. The play centres on two couples and deals with themes of friendship, suspicion, deceit. It will be the first ever licensed amateur production of Florian Zeller’s work, translated by Christopher Hampton. Written and translated by the same team behind the multi-award-winning play and film, The Father, this French comedy of manners features two couples facing serious questions about the pros and cons of being honest. Agains the backdrop of contemporary Paris, the show moves swiftly from hotel to apartment to office to tennis-club changing room as the characters reveal layer upon layer of deceit. How far will they go to hide the truth? There will be four performances at St. Michael’s Church Hall in Elmwood Road from 3-6 July commencing at 7.45pm. A ‘well-priced’ bar will open before and after. Following the show on Thursday 4 July, and at no extra cost, there’s a Q&A with Christopher Hampton and the cast when the audience will be encouraged to grab a drink and tell the truth about what it thought of the performance. St. Michael's Players is one of the longest established drama groups in London. It has been staging plays in West London since 1949. In a good year it will present two full length performances in the Spring and the Autumn, a one-act play in the Summer and its famous panto at Christmas.
