Charity looking for guests and volunteers for Christmas Day party
Pensioners Alone At Christmas (Chiswick) Group has been running for twenty-two years. During that time have organised twenty-two Christmas Day Parties and nineteen Summer Parties. Pauline Hart, who was the Home Care Manager at Chiswick Social Services, started the event in 1984. She felt a lot of elderly people who were on their own just gave up the will to live over the Christmas period, as they missed their family and friends. This year, we are holding a Christmas Day Party for Senior Citizens who live in the Chiswick area. If you know anyone who would like to join us, or if you would like to help at the event please contact us. The party starts at 1.30pm, and finishes at 4:30pm. Volunteers are welcome from 12:00pm-5:00pm. We provide a meal and entertainment for 60 senior citizens (guests) and about 20 volunteers, but please contact us if you wish to come either as a guest or a volunteer as this will enable us to plan for catering and transport in advance. Pensioners Alone At Christmas is a registered charity independently funded by donations throughout the year. There is no charge for attending this event. The charity has been very blessed with donations from local businesses, including Singapore Airlines, Positive Thinking, and some local Churches. Volunteer and Committee Member, Bob McKeown said “Excellent time for people on their own, really enjoyed the day and made new friends”. Guest Rose Talbot said “Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the activities enjoyed talking to people and it was the right amount of time”. November 23, 2006
