This May Bank Holiday Weekend you are invited to a local lawn bowls club to give the sport a try.

The Masonian Bowls Club is offering free trial sessions as part of the ‘Big Bowls Weekend’, England Bowls annual festival of bowling fun on Sunday 26 May.

The club is situated very near to the weekly Food Market in Dukes Meadow.

The Masonian Club is Chiswick’s oldest lawn bowls club and will be offering residents and passers-by the chance to play on its beautiful ‘rink’ from 10.00am to 5.30pm.

‘Lawn bowls is an easy to play game for all ages. It’s suitable for men and women and we welcome young kids too. We’re set in a peaceful oasis in the heart of Chiswick riverside and there’ll be a friendly team on hand to help you get to grips with the game. Why not give it a try?’ says Andy Tucker, the club’s captain.

The try out sessions do not require a particular dress code, but flat shoes, like plimsoles, are required.

‘Dress comfortably, bring a friend and just turn up. We’ll lend you everything you need to play and coach you on how to play. And afterwards, if you fancy it, join us in the clubhouse for a pint of beer or a cup of tea,’ says Mr. Tucker.

The Masonian Bowls Club dates back to when it was part of the Cherry Blossom Boot Polish factory's sports ground.

In addition to playing bowls the club is a social hub, with a club room offering refreshments and lunch or tea after matches.

The Bowls Green and Club are in Market Drive W4 2RX, where the Food Market is held.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.
