Budding young musicians given the chance to hone their skills
Budding young musicians have the chance to hone their skills at the Chiswick Music Centre, the area’s unique parent-run Saturday music school. Whether your child is a complete beginner, intermediate level, or a more accomplished musician and needing new inspiration, the school suits all. The Saturday Music Centre is one of the treasures of the area – a non-profit organisation started years ago that is devoted to providing local kids the chance to learn to play an instrument, and the joys of ensembles and group performance. Hundreds of children over the years have enjoyed individual tuition from professional musicians and the opportunity to participate in groups in a relaxed atmosphere. Instruments taught at the centre range from oboe, flute, clarinet, saxophone, recorder, violin, acoustic and rock guitar as well as piano, keyboard and drums. There are also rock, jazz, and wind bands, guitar, percussion, recorder and singing groups. All the teachers are qualified professionals who get great results. The organisers are parents, many of whom have no musical ability themselves but enjoy the family atmosphere and the chance to support the centre. One of the highlights of the year is the summer concert when everyone has the chance to perform. “It’s wonderful to see our children, including beginners, perform with such confidence in front of parents and friends” explains Ed Pigott, Chair of the committee “This year some of our students went on to perform on the main stage at Chiswick’s Grovestock festival. Every year we are thrilled with the level of achievement and the obvious fun involved.”
