Local green fingered group celebrates 90 years and still growing
The Chiswick Horticultural Society Autumn Show, which took place last Saturday 10th September at Chiswick Town Hall, proved a great success. Local gardeners and allotment holders showed their prize flowers, fruits, vegetables and home-made jams, cakes and wines and were all hoping to be judged the "best bloom", "vibrant vegetable" and "fecund fruit"! Tables were laid out ready for the Entrants to stage their exhibits between 10am and 12 noon. The Judges then went to work in inspecting the various categories of flowers, fruit, vegetables and domestic classes - very difficult decisions indeed according to the show's organisers - and prizes were awarded accordingly. The event was organised by Show Secretary, Rosemary Day and local actor Peter Howell was on hand to award to present the winning entrants with their accolades.. Founded in 1915, the Chiswick Horticultural Society Allotments and Gardeners Club is celebrating its 90th Anniversary this year. In 1925 the CHS was the first group to be affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society.
