The series of Talks by the Thames hosted by the Chiswick Pier Trust (CPT) resumes with a talk by Joshua Rebbettes.

His subject on Tuesday, 29 October will be ‘A day in the life of a (deputy) Harbour Master’.

The deputy Harbour Master for the Port of London Authority (PLA) will be presenting the 45-minute talk at The Pier House, Corney Reach Way W4 2UG.

It will be a chance to find out about his unusual job, managing the smooth flow of river users along the ‘Upper District of the River Thames - between Putney and Teddington.

From patrol boats and port security to planning for the capital’s flood resilience, you will discover the diverse duties involved in supporting the river’s many and varied users and how Joshua found his perfect career.

The talk begins at 7pm with doors open at 6.30pm and refreshments will be on sale. Tickets cost £5 with CPT Members free. Register for your tickets here.

On Tuesday 12 November at 2pm local photographer Andrew Wilson will be hosting a fully illustrated talk on birds of South West London. Andrew is also well known for his books with many colour plates of the local areas.

Come down to Chiswick Pier and see some of the photographs he has taken and hear him explain how he captured those shots. He will also give some hints on how to improve your own photographic skills.

Tickets cost £7.50 and include tea and cake which will be served afterwards when you will have a chance to chat to Andrew and peruse his books which will be available for purchase.

The cruise planned to view Battersea Fireworks on Sunday 3 November is now sold out.

These events are organised by the Chiswick Pier Trust which works to engage people with the River Thames. It provides access to the Thames and supports major river events, as well as organising events of its own.
