Felicity Rhodes of river-clean up charity Thames 21 is to give a talk on the current health of the tidal Thames. She will explain about the vital and innovative methods being used to tackle ecological harm being caused through pollution and climate change.

Felicity’s presentation will cover local action on pollution hot spots like ‘wet wipe island’ - the growing mound of disposed wet wipes on the riverbed just downstream of Hammersmith Bridge; plastics pollution; and the preservation of Chiswick Eyot.

She will also share positive news on the impact of Thames 21’s river restoration initiatives, such as rewilding, as well as the charity’s future vision for the River Thames which was published recently in its 5-Year Plan.

It will be an opportunity to find out about the ways this charity is taking action; mobilising communities in helping with river clean-ups; persistently lobbying government; managing and maintaining restoration initiatives; and discover how you can get involved.

The talk starts at 7pm on Monday, 25 March at The Pier House, Corney Reach Way W4 2UG.

Doors open 6.30pm and refreshments will be available. Tickets £5, free to members of Chiswick Pier Trust.

You can book tickets via this link or, for further details of this and future ‘Talks by the Thames’ including information on CPT membership go to www.chiswickpier.org.uk.

Don't forget that the Boat Race is on Saturday 30 March. Details of what's happening then at Chiswick Pier will be announced soon, as will the many other events the Trust has planned.

For information on Chiswick Pier Trust membership check the Chiswick Pier Trust's web site.

The trust works to engage people with the River Thames. It provides access to the Thames and support major river events, as well as organising events of its own.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT.
