Chiswick Pier Offering Ultimate Boat Race Experience |

See the start and finish on the big screen along with live action
March 23, 2024 This year’s University Boat Race takes place on Sunday 30 March and Chiswick Pier is claiming to be the best place for all the family to watch the event. The start and finish of the races will be shown on a big screen in Pier House and, in between, you can walk outside to experience the live action as the boats pass. Chiswick Pier provides one of the best views of the race as you can watch the crews power upstream from Chiswick Eyot, past the Pier and through to the final bend before Barnes Bridge. Food and drink will be served all day including from Salt Beef Shack, Abdul’s Moroccan and ice creams from Super Scoop gelato, along with the what the Trust says is best value beer on the river from its Fuller’s bar (this year cashless). Hot drinks will also be available to purchase. The races start at 2.45pm with the first women’s race, finishing with the men’s race at 3.45pm. Between these two races will be the women’s reserve crews followed by the men’s reserve crews. It is expected the boats will pass Chiswick Pier approximately 11 minutes after the race start times. Having seen Cambridge make a clean sweep of all the races last year, Oxford will be hoping for more success and its men’s crew are starting as favourites. This year sees the event return to its amateur roots with rowers participating in the Olympics not in any of the crews. The Pier House opens at noon and will be serving food and drinks all afternoon. The trust works to engage people with the River Thames. It provides access to the Thames and support major river events, as well as organising events of its own.
