Trust offers perfect vantage point for fun family day
Chiswick Pier Trust invites you to watch The Great River Race at Chiswick Pier on Saturday 17th September 2005. This annual event is run from Ham House, Richmond along a 22 mile course to Island Gardens, Greenwich and has become the biggest and most prestigious event of its kind in Europe. Any traditional style, coxed passenger carrying boat may take part. Chiswick Pier Trust, with the Thames Tradesmens’ top 8 oarsmen, is intent on breaking the record for the Riperian Challenge Trophy. The Trust has obtained courtesy of the Worshipful Company of Watermen and Lightermen, the Shallop “Lady Mayoress”, a beautiful replica of a traditional Thames passenger craft. The "Lady Mayoress" will transport the Mayor of Hounslow to, hopefully, a victorious win! The whole family is welcome down to Chiswick Pier to cheer and encourage the crew in their record-breaking attempt. The race starts at Ham House at 14.30hrs (2:30pm) and boats should be passing Chiswick Pier from around 15.30(3:30pm). The Pier is a wonderful vantage point from which to watch whilst enjoying refreshments, spit roasted meats, live music and a bar kindly sponsored by Fullers Brewery. The Pier House opens at 12.30pm.
