Celebrate the beginning of Chiswick's summer
From theatrical re-enactments at the Stable Yard to riverside fun, this celebration of summer promises to offer something for everyone. Hounslow’s mayor, Felicity Barwood, will arrive via barge to kick off the celebrations at the Chiswick Pier at 12noon. From 12noon until 4pm, eat and drink at the barbeque and bar, try canoeing or go for a trip on the river on the London Belle, let off steam on a large bouncy jungle slide, or try your luck with tombola, while you enjoy the sounds of live music. Then... Go to Chiswick Park’s Burlington cafe for tea and homemade cakes, while a juggler teaches your kids: see if you can travel on a one wheel with a unicyclist... and then recover with a special massage. Tour Chiswick House
with its Da Vinci code
secrets and exhibition
of paintings. It will be
open to the public free
of charge during the
afternoon. Pop into Chiswick House Kitchen Gardens to paint, make candles or bread, pick up a plant or get the best gardening tips. Then... Stroll ‘round to the Stable Yard where there will be local craft stalls with jewellery, ceramics and scarves as well as an exhibition of blacksmith’s work. AND... Don’t miss the new Educational Centre in the Stable Yard where the Living History Society and local historians - dressed in period costume - will be telling stories, talking about the history of the Gardens and house and playing games of the era. There will be maps and pictures of how the Park started, what has happened over 300 years and what could happen in the next ten years. June 14, 2006
