A briefing from local police officers is on the agenda for the final Chiswick Area Forum of this year.

The public meeting is taking place at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 11 December at The Main Hall of Chiswick Town Hall on Heathfield Terrace, (W4 4JN).

It will be proceeded by an informal networking event from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. This section before the start of the formal meeting will include marketplace style stalls, where residents can speak with Council officers about individual issues, meet and speak to their specific ward Councillors and hear about local community groups and initiatives.

The Police and Community Safety Update will be followed by a presentation on the work of W4 Youth by the local charity’s founder Sally Chacatte.

Criticism of the scheme came from all quarters including Hounslow Council’s own transport team. Most of the negative comments related to the closure of Church Street, which was regarded as unnecessary, and the very sharp turn proposed to enter Church Street via Burlington Lane in front of George & Devonshire pub was roundly criticised on safety grounds. There was also scepticism about the safety arguments being made by TfL for the scheme which it was claimed did not support the changes being proposed.

As usual there will be an Open Forum which will take questions from members of the public from as close as possible to 8pm for approximately 20 minutes. Members of the public may raise matters of local concern. Points raised will be noted and used to inform the work of the Area Forum but it may not be possible to have a detailed discussion of individual issues. Written questions can be submitted up until 7.45pm using proforma sheets will be available at the back of the hall. Speakers will be allowed at the Chair’s discretion who will normally only allow one contribution per person per item and one item per person per meeting and discussion of items on the main agenda will not be permitted in the Open Forum. Items where the debate cannot be contained within the public forum may be continued at a future forum or may be put on a future agenda with an officer’s report.

The next Chiswick Area Forum is due to take place on 12 March 2025.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.
