Radio
3 man makes Bach to Back performances
BBC
Radio 3 presenter Sandy Burnett will pull off a musical double with
two contrasting events at the Bedford Park Festival
On
Sunday June 8th, at 7.30pm, he will conduct a performance of two
Bach Cantatas by the West London Bach Consort & Players. And
on Friday, June 13th, at 8pm, he's performing as a bass player with
the Sandy Burnett Quartet in the Friday Night Jazz concert. Both
events take place in St Michael & All Angels Church, Bath Road,
close to Turnham Green tube station.
"St
Michael's is a great music venue and has a good catchment area both
for classical music and jazz" says Sandy, who presents Radio
3's breakfast programme, as well as a series of live concerts every
August from the Edinburgh Festival.
"This
is our fourth successive Festival appearance with the jazz night"
he says. "Making a return visit is one of London's most personable
saxophonists, Martin Hathaway. We're also delighted to introduce
tyro pianist Leon Greening, who's won awards in the Royal &
SunAlliance Jazz competition, and a medal from the Musicians' Company.
Despite his youth, Leon's style is firmly rooted in the classic
jazz tradition.
"Completing
the line-up is Phil Lee, distinguished guitarist whose jazz CV is
longer than anyone's arm. Over the last four decades he's worked
with artists of the stature of Benny Goodman, Michel Legrand, and
Jessye Norman."
The
jazz concert is sponsored by Starbucks Chiswick and the money raised
will go to this year's Festival cause, St Mary's Convent & Nursing
Home Appeal. Admission to the Friday Night Jazz is £10 on
the door (with concessions for students), while tickets for the
Bach are £5.
The
Bedford Park Festival will be opened at 11am on Saturday June 7th
by Radio 4's John Humphrys, as part of the Green Days fete on Acton
Green, opposite Turnham Green tube station.
