In response to the high level of vandalism in the grounds of Chiswick House, the Friends of Chiswick House have decided to use their own funds to pay for night time security in the park.

There have been several incidences of serious damage including the beheading of a sphinx (see left), repeated damage to the Cricket pavilion/flat, extensive graffiti on South Lodge and the smashing of the new sundial.

CiP which runs the park on behalf of Hounslow Council say they have insufficient funds for night time security. Patrols ceased some time ago In view of the lack of funding at CiP which has led to the cessation of night time patrolling the trustees of the Friends are to engage a private security firm, Profile Security for a limited period. They will patrol the grounds on two random nights each week between 11.00pm and 5.00am.

A spokesperson for the Friends said, "The trustees consider that this is a most worthwhile contribution to fulfilling our purpose, which includes preservation and protection of the grounds."

The Friends would be interested to hear from local people as to whether they think this is a reasonable course of action. Please email the Chiswick House Friends' secretary on: secretary@chfriends.org.uk (web site: www.chfriends.org.uk)" with your views on this - or indeed any other matter that concerns you.
